Project Overview

The Directors of IPS formed the project team responsible to the Wesfarmers Coal Limited (WCL) Managing Director for the development, approvals, design management, construction, commissioning and hand-over of the Premier Mine Construction Project.

This project encompassed; open cut mine and mine infrastructure, coal handling plant (4 Mtpa) and support infrastructure (eg. administration building, workshops, warehouses, support buildings, roads and services). Detail planning was required to ensure smooth interconnection to two, base-load, power stations via overland conveyor systems.

Detail aspects included; relocation of the township of "Shotts", project environmental monitoring and open cut establishment. Construction included; bulk earthworks, ROM dump, coal stacker & reclaimer systems, yard & process conveyors, crushers, screen, coal stock yard, rail loop, train loading system and coal sampling stations.

All site services were developed, including; site and stockpile drainage, fuel facilities, vehicle washdown,132/22 kV substation, 22 kV reticulation, telecommunications and fibre optic / radio telemetry data links, process computer and control systems.
